Christopher Newport University Stair

The monumental stair in the New Hall of Business at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia was completed in May 2013. The entire project lasted approximately eighteen months, and involved a fifteen person team committing over 3,700 hours of hard work. The construction manager was The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, with Glave & Holmes supplying the architectural vision.

In order to provide the university with the highest caliber product, Shickel Corporation partnered with several specialists in the design and fabrication community, including Engineering Solutions, Envirocon, and Pompei Inc.

Steel, bronze, brass, wood, and Terrazzo were fashioned together to create the stair. The final product is an amazing synthesis of technological innovation, quality material, and master craftsmanship; three things you can always expect from Shickel Corporation.
